Although the ZF34 would be replaced by the improved ZF40 scope it would remain in use till the end of WWII. Unlike the earlier ZF12 scope the ZF34 mounted to the lafette tripod and not directly to the MG34 or MG42 machine gun. The scope provided the shooter the ability to aim both in direct and indirect fire modes.
