The Type 97-3 sight consists of a scope and integrated laser sight for use on the Type 81 rifle, it was developed by the 武警研究所专门 (Armed Police Research Institute) (Jiangxiaonei 2019). The sight mounts to the Type 81 by means of an integrated bracket that clamps around the receiver, the scope magnification is 3x, the project was dropped due to unit cost, size, and performance (雷姐的机械空间 2020). The development project appears to have occured sometime in the late 1990s to early 2000s.
